    TiO₂ Performance Across Modern Manufacturing.

Explore how titanium dioxide supports appearance, opacity, durability and processing performance across six core manufacturing sectors—and review PGL grades that may be appropriate for evaluation.

    Choose Your Manufacturing Sector

Six application areas. One connected TiO₂ resource.

Select an industry to move directly to its application overview, performance priorities and candidate PGL grades.

Paint cans and coating application tools
    01 / Paints & Coatings

Coverage, brightness and durable finished surfaces.

Titanium dioxide is a foundational pigment in architectural, industrial and specialty coatings. Its strong light-scattering ability helps formulations achieve hiding power, whiteness and visual uniformity while selected rutile grades can also support gloss and exterior durability.

High opacity and hiding powerBrightness and clean white tone Gloss and surface appearanceWeatherability and UV resistance

    Candidate PGL grades to evaluate

Final grade selection depends on resin system, application method, gloss target, durability requirements and cost objectives.

    Colorful polymer and masterbatch pellets
    02 / Plastics & Masterbatch

Whiteness, opacity and reliable processing performance.

In plastics and masterbatch, titanium dioxide helps create bright white color, strong opacity and consistent appearance at practical loading levels. Grade choice can influence dispersion, melt processing, moisture sensitivity, undertone and finished-part durability.

Strong tinting strengthEfficient opacity Good dispersion in polymersColor consistency and durability

    Candidate PGL grades to evaluate

Evaluation should consider polymer type, processing temperature, masterbatch concentration, dispersion method and outdoor exposure.

    Paper sheets and paperboard packaging
    03 / Paper & Paperboard

Brightness and opacity for higher-quality paper products.

Titanium dioxide can improve whiteness, opacity and print appearance in selected paper, paperboard and specialty fiber applications. Its high refractive index helps reduce show-through and supports a cleaner, more consistent visual surface.

Improved brightnessReduced show-through Enhanced print surfaceConsistent visual quality

    Candidate PGL grades to evaluate

The best option depends on coating or wet-end use, retention system, brightness target, cost structure and paper grade.

Commercial printing inks and color process
    04 / Printing Inks

Strong white coverage and consistent printed appearance.

White and pastel printing inks use titanium dioxide to build opacity, color strength and contrast over paper, film and other substrates. Dispersion quality and rheology are especially important because they affect printability, coverage and equipment performance.

High white opacityColor strength and contrast Consistent dispersionClean printed appearance

    Candidate PGL grades to evaluate

Ink system, printing method, substrate, viscosity and required film thickness should guide product testing.

Industrial tires, rubber seals and elastomer products
    05 / Rubber & Elastomers

Color, opacity and appearance in rubber compounds.

Titanium dioxide is used in white and colored rubber formulations to provide opacity, brightness and a consistent finished appearance. It may also support visual stability in molded goods, profiles, sheets, footwear components and other elastomer products.

White and pastel colorationOpacity and hiding Consistent finished appearanceCompatibility with selected compounds

    Candidate PGL grades to evaluate

Compound chemistry, cure system, loading, dispersion method and exposure conditions should be reviewed during selection.

    Commercial buildings and construction materials
    06 / Construction Materials

Whiteness and durable appearance in building products.

Titanium dioxide can support color, opacity and visual durability in construction-related products such as architectural coatings, sealants, synthetic profiles, panels, roofing materials, cementitious finishes and selected composite systems.

Bright, uniform appearanceOpacity in thin films and surfaces Exterior weatherabilityLong-term color presentation

    Candidate PGL grades to evaluate

Binder type, alkalinity, outdoor exposure, surface finish and required service life should be part of the evaluation.

Understanding Titanium Dioxide—and Choosing It with Confidence.

A clear, practical introduction to the white pigment that supports color, opacity, protection and performance across modern manufacturing.

    What Is Titanium Dioxide?

A versatile industrial pigment with exceptional hiding power.

Titanium dioxide, commonly written as TiO₂, is one of the world’s most widely used white pigments. Manufacturers value it for brightness, opacity, light scattering, chemical stability and durability.

PGL helps customers move beyond a generic TiO₂ description by connecting product characteristics to the realities of the customer’s formulation, process and finished-product requirements.

PGL builds recommendations around your application, process, performance goals, purchasing volume and delivery requirements.

    The PGL Approach

We begin with your manufacturing reality—not a predetermined answer.

No two customers use titanium dioxide in exactly the same way. Resin systems, processing conditions, opacity targets, weatherability, cost structure, packaging and order volume all influence the most practical solution.

Our role is to translate those requirements into a focused evaluation path, helping customers compare qualified grades without being overwhelmed by unnecessary options.

    Supply Innovation & Productivity

A Smarter Supply Model Helps Production Perform.

PGL combines sourcing flexibility, product qualification, documentation and coordinated delivery to support continuity, efficiency and confident planning.

    Supply Innovation

Innovation is not only a new product—it is a better way to secure it.

PGL evaluates domestic and international sourcing options, manufacturing relationships, freight paths, warehouse availability and customer requirements as one connected supply decision.

This approach helps customers access suitable grades, adapt to changing market conditions and reduce the disruption caused by limited sources or inflexible purchasing structures.
